WHAT IS Emergency Relief Fund (ERF)?
Emergency Relief Fund(ERF) is a basket fund that are intended to act to reduce the emergency sufferings through Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Promotion on the emergency situation like epidemic, flood, landslide, earthquake, etc on any part or, region of Nepal.
WHY ERF?
When the emergencies like epidemic/disaster occurs, the situation becomes very vulnerable and many lives can be claimed all of sudden that can be saved if the small previous alert and effort were made. Despites other constraints, financial constraints is most. Indeed, Quick and proactive responses cannot be taken due to the financial constraint. In such contest, ERF can be at least, a supportive fund for emergency response and saving lives.
WHY FOCUSING ON WASH PROMOTION?
During the emergency situation, people use to drink and eat whatever there is available. Whether it is epidemic or, earthquake, the situation becomes the same. It has known fact that the lives claimed by earthquake are much more than that due to diarrhea/cholera epidemic after the physical damaged done by earthquake.
Consequently, majority of lives can be saved with mere focus on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Promotion. So, focus on WASH promotion is very crucial.
HOW DOES IT FUNCTION?
It is used only for encountering emergency situation for WASH promotion. Matching grant and support will also be given to those who need it as well.
WHERE DOES IT WORK?
The fund from ERF will be supported to any communities or, region of Nepal that are in need due to emergency situation.
WHO IS MANAGING IT?
“paschim paaila” (youth network) is primarily managing the ERF during the situation where Environment and Public Health Organization (ENPHO) is providing legal and secretariat support for it.
